TRYING OUTSIDE THE LINES

An unwritten firework letting her colors burst

They do know my name

Indescribable feeling to wake up and know that you’ve been visited by angels while you were sleeping.

I remember reading, years ago when I was a girl, Sharon Ewell Foster’s Riding Through Shadows and Passing Into Light and marveling at the way she described guardian angels watching, protecting, and guardianing. I know when you’re growing up and learning, you take refuge in places that touch your heart–the thought of the ceiling of my world being transparent, and mighty beings looking out for, reaching down to protect and comfort me… I think that’s why I remember the titles of those books all these years later.

To see all the sisters I’ve had over my life, by blood and by love, patiently sit with me and talk through questions and confusions my heart has been too afraid to ask about, imaginings and conversations that I’ve cut off before letting them fully play out in my mind…

They were with me, legion, unmoving, and they were not afraid. Nor were they angry or frustrated or pushy. They sat with me. They talked with me and sat with me.

Many different ways I’ve learned God is real. I think this one fits this season. He is El Roi, and He sees me.
